This is the USMC carbine for the Spec-Ops, the M4. Heres a wikipedia quote (being wikipedia, it's long...)
The M4 Carbine is a family of firearms tracing its lineage back to earlier carbine versions of the M16, all based on the original AR-15 made by ArmaLite. It is a shorter and lighter version of the M16A2 assault rifle, achieving 80% parts commonality with the M16A2. The M4 has selective fire options including semi-automatic and three-round burst (like the M16A2), while the M4A1 has a "full auto" option in place of the three-round burst
Complicated... heres the simple (my) version.
The M4 is a carbine based on the American M16 rifle. In Battlefield 2 it has a laser sight, which makes all the newbies go nuts (though everybody can use it, newbies seem to covet this gun above all, except maybe teh G36E). It has 30 bullets per clip, which can be fired at a fast rate and has two modesof fire: semi-auto (fires one bullet per click), and automatic (lots of bullets).
There are the tactics for this gun:
1. The M4 is extremely accurate, but that doesn't mean that it will kill somebody from miles away on automatic. There are a few tactics that may be applyed to any gun.
- Run around in automatic mode, so if you are jumped, you don't have switch firing modes (and die), or get a very sore clicking finger (and die). If you find an enemy who isn't 'in your face' then switch to semi- auto and go to zoom mode (right click, though god help me if you didn't know that already). If you are jumped blast away without zooming in, it makes aiming hared at close-quarters.
- When firing, crouch. Everybody always says to go prone as it gives you slightly better accuracy, but there is a delay before you can shoot, and your manouverability is severely reduced (you can't run away, or hide). Crouching allows you to get into cover quickly, and those few milliseconds can really count. Also, proning does reduce how much body your foe can shoot at, but most of the shootable bits are the head, which deals out incredible damage to yourself if you get hit in the head.
2. The M4s laser sight is there, so use it. You can easily line up with anenemies body and blast away.
3. Be aware of how fast this gun shoots, so if yuo are not in combat and have less than 20 bullets, reload. If you are jumped, pistol it is.
4. Going up against a bunnyhopper (or in fact, anyone moving sideways) with this gun is a nightmare, you'll find yourself constantly lagging behind him if you fire auto, so make accurate shots with semi auto.
5. Aim for the head if you can, this gun isn't the most powerful, and takes about 5 shots to the body to kill, but 2 or 3 shots to the head will get you that kill. Of course, at close range, don't bother with this, because you're too close for accuracy to matter.
