QBZ-97

The Chinese carbine is a lot different from the other two standard carbines. Unlike the M4 ad the AK74-U, the QBZ does not not have a laser sigh, this can actually be an advantage however.

This is what wikipedia says:

The QBZ-95 (Chinese: 轻武器,步枪,自动, 1995; pinyin: Qīng Bùqiāng--Zìdòng, 1995; literally "Light/Small, Rifle, Automatic, 1995") is an assault rifle manufactured by Arsenal 266, part of Norinco and Arsenal 296, under Jianshe Corp, China South for the People's Liberation Army, the armed forces of the People's Republic of China, Chinese People's Armed Police (para-military) and the Chinese law enforcements. This weapon uses a newly-developed ammunition type of Chinese origin, the 5.8 x 42 mm DBP87. The QBZ-95 consists of a system of firearms using a common design.

Tactics. This gun requires a different view towards using it than the other two standard carbines.

1. Use the iron sight (zoom) as much as possible, this has a little pin which can show you where your bullet will land. It is more reliable than the laser, which will spray the bullets a bit.

2. Think of it more as a rifle than a carbine. Try to engage people up close more often, as this gun loves that kind of play if you can pull it off.

3. This gun fires even faster, so be all the more aware of that ammo count.

AK74-U

The MEC Carbine comes with a neat camouflage, sadly, the colour can only be described as 'dinner gone wrong'. Don't let this guns sick-like features put you off though, it's more powerful than the M4, and just about as accurate. It still has the two firing modes: Auto and Semi-Auto, it also has 30 bullets.
Wikipedia says the following:
The AKS-74U is an assault rifle designed in the Soviet Union that was in production from the early 1980s until circa 1991. The AKS-74U ("U" for "Укороченный"/"Ukorochennyj" [shortened]) was developed in the late 1970s from the AKS-74, a shortened variant of the AK-74. The earliest known models were produced and dated by the Izmash and Tula Arsenals beginning in 1981. The AKS-74U is the size of, and has the effective range of, a submachine gun. Only a few parts are interchangeable with the AK74, although it does utilize the same 5.45 mm ammunition. A notable distinguishing feature is the conical gas expansion chamber developed to control recoil and muzzle flash as well as to facilitate cycling of the weapon given the shorter barrel.
The tactics remain about the same, but there are a few precautions to take.

1. Do take in mind that this gun is less accurate, and you really should be semi-auto-ing anything further away than 10 metres, or you'll just have a lot of bullet holes in you and the wall behind the enemy.

2. Never shoot this gun when moving, unless prone. the same result as above will happen.

3. Enjoy that extra power in the gun, though the differ enc is minuscule, the gun definitely makes most people wielding it more confident (or sick).

The M4 Carbine

This is the USMC carbine for the Spec-Ops, the M4. Heres a wikipedia quote (being wikipedia, it's long...)

The M4 Carbine is a family of firearms tracing its lineage back to earlier carbine versions of the M16, all based on the original AR-15 made by ArmaLite. It is a shorter and lighter version of the M16A2 assault rifle, achieving 80% parts commonality with the M16A2. The M4 has selective fire options including semi-automatic and three-round burst (like the M16A2), while the M4A1 has a "full auto" option in place of the three-round burst

Complicated... heres the simple (my) version.

The M4 is a carbine based on the American M16 rifle. In Battlefield 2 it has a laser sight, which makes all the newbies go nuts (though everybody can use it, newbies seem to covet this gun above all, except maybe teh G36E). It has 30 bullets per clip, which can be fired at a fast rate and has two modesof fire: semi-auto (fires one bullet per click), and automatic (lots of bullets).

There are the tactics for this gun:

1. The M4 is extremely accurate, but that doesn't mean that it will kill somebody from miles away on automatic. There are a few tactics that may be applyed to any gun.
  • Run around in automatic mode, so if you are jumped, you don't have switch firing modes (and die), or get a very sore clicking finger (and die). If you find an enemy who isn't 'in your face' then switch to semi- auto and go to zoom mode (right click, though god help me if you didn't know that already). If you are jumped blast away without zooming in, it makes aiming hared at close-quarters.
  • When firing, crouch. Everybody always says to go prone as it gives you slightly better accuracy, but there is a delay before you can shoot, and your manouverability is severely reduced (you can't run away, or hide). Crouching allows you to get into cover quickly, and those few milliseconds can really count. Also, proning does reduce how much body your foe can shoot at, but most of the shootable bits are the head, which deals out incredible damage to yourself if you get hit in the head.

2. The M4s laser sight is there, so use it. You can easily line up with anenemies body and blast away.

3. Be aware of how fast this gun shoots, so if yuo are not in combat and have less than 20 bullets, reload. If you are jumped, pistol it is.

4. Going up against a bunnyhopper (or in fact, anyone moving sideways) with this gun is a nightmare, you'll find yourself constantly lagging behind him if you fire auto, so make accurate shots with semi auto.

5. Aim for the head if you can, this gun isn't the most powerful, and takes about 5 shots to the body to kill, but 2 or 3 shots to the head will get you that kill. Of course, at close range, don't bother with this, because you're too close for accuracy to matter.

Spec Ops

This class is the equivalent of a secret agent of the battlefield. They are equipped with the standard issue knife 'n 'nades, a silenced combat pistol, a carbine (a smaller variant of a gun, lighter and less powerful), and have a very versatile set of C4 explosives.
The Spec Ops kit does not wear heavy body armour, as it is meant to be a versatile kit, so speed is of the essence, but it does come with a very fashionable beret.
I shall cover the knife later, as with the 'nades, as all kits have them, so they may as well be separate topics.
The gun
Silenced Pistols: These are all essentially the same, so I'll give you some pictures, and a few tactics.
1. Don't underestimate this small thing, it can take out an unarmoured enemy (all except assault and support) in 3-5 shots. So if you come into a situation where the enemy has his back to you, save some valuable bullets on your main weapon, and take him out with a few choice shots to the head.
2. They don't call it silenced for nothing! It only makes a small clicking sound, that can barely be heard from 2 metres away, so if you remain concealed from the enemy's view, you can take a few pot shots at him, and he'll become confused as to where the shots are coming from, or more preferably, dead.
3. If you happen to run out of ammo mid-conflict, don't hesitate to draw your pistol. It can be quite deadly if you just need to get a last few shots in to either kill, or get into cover. More than likely, an experienced foe will draw his/her pistol in combat if he has no ammo left/ needs a reload for his main weapon, and more than likely, it'll push him/her through a tough spot.

These are the pistols in their silenced configuration. Seeing as you will only ever be playing in this view as infantry, it is the only one you need to know. With guns that require it, I shall include specific tactics. Sorry for the pixelated approach, Blogspot doesn't like big pictures.

QSZ-92 (PLA Pistol)

It is most definitely the coolest of the pistols, having a nice red 'thingy' on it. It is, however a pistol, and the enemy doesn't care what you're gun looks like, unless it's a tank (which usually merits its own fair share of attention from anything).

MR-444 (MEC Pistol)

Ditto, just less cool, and Russian.

9F2S (USMC Pistol)

Also known as the M9 pistol, but 9F2S sounds better. It looks smooth, but then again, it's a pistol.

Now an enemy is not going to back down at the sight of a pistol, and it hardly packs enough of a punch to fend for itself, so each Spec-Op also carries a carbine.

Here's what wikipedia has to say about carbines (yes, you shall see many wikipedia references, and why not?)

A carbine is a firearm similar to, but generally shorter and less powerful than, a rifle or musket of a given period. There have been many carbines developed from rifles, being essentially shorter rifles firing the same ammunition, although usually at a lower velocity, and there have also been many where the carbine and rifle adopted by a particular nation were not technically related, such as using completely different ammunition or internal operating systems (though the carbine still being weaker, or of smaller size). Which may be more common, depending on the time period.

Of course, wikipedia waffles on about the entire history of the carbine, so I've just included the description, if you want to read more here's the link : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbine. Also, I've left on the links so anybody who wants to know more about those subject

Each gun shall have its own post, seeing as I can't find a way to get around this awkward setup (it places the pictures at the top instead of the bottom).

So then, that's an overview of the game. If you want to know the controls, as soon as you go on any game with a new character (easily to make, so I won't explain how) an annoying voice that sounds rather like David Attenborough will tell how the basics of controls.

David Attenborough, however, is old, and not a gamer, and he doesn't tell you about or give you any tips on classes. So lets go to the first section.

CLASSES OF BATTLEFIELD 2

In this section I shall go through all of the classes of soldier you can play as in the game the game, and give you some tips about how to exploit that kit to it's best potential.

What is BF2??

Battlefield 2 is an FPS (First Person Shooter) game for the computer. It was released in late June 2005 by EA games and DICE (the publishers and programers respectively).

It is based on modern 21st century warfare, and involves the player playing as a soldier on one of three sides (though that person is not restricted to that faction). The three sides are: the USMC (United States Marine Corps), representing the US forces. They are included in every map, and their weaponary is accuracy based; the PLA (Peoples Liberation Army), representing Chinese armed forces. Their weaponary is a blance of accuracy and power (though it does look old); and, the fictional MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition). This is supposed to represent a faction that may emerge if the Middle East crisis worsens.

This is a map of territory for BF2

Maps for BF2

There 12 original maps overall (not including Road to Jalalabad and Wake Island 2007, which were release in patches). Each of these has three variants: 16 player; 32 player; and, 64 player (the exception being Wake Island 2007). I'll go over those in detail later on, but here is a list of them for now, and the factions that take part :

MEC

Wake Island 2007

Zatar Wetlands
USMC MEC

:note that the expansion packs, Special Forces, Armoured Fury and Euro Force cotain extra maps which will be left out for now, since: a) This is just an introduction to basic BF2 and, b) My computer hates me, so I have trouble getting onto these and getting experience for them. :(

What is the difference between maps with the PLA and maps with the MEC? One of the main differences is the fighting style. The PLA/USMC maps are usually large, linear, rural (countryside) maps with few choices of advance, and where vehicles take a much larger role than the infantrymen, whereas MEC/USMC engagements almost always involve a large amount of urban warfare, and involve the skills of single infantrymen to make the day shine, the exceptions being Operation Clean Sweep, Zatar Wetlands and non-16 size Gulf of Oman.

For the classes I shall include many more pics, and will probably give a guide to each class, its unlocks and general tactics (for the veterans, don't worry I'm not a noob, so no 'nade spamming[the constant throwing of grenades, the usual weather at Strike of Karkand])

First of all... myself

This is just to give you people out there a description of me (and make any decisions on my bias).

I bought Battlefield 2 on the 12th of April 2007, and ever since, have been a complete addict.
My username is The-Heretics_God, I am a Gunnery Sergeant at the moment and my main domain is infantry only Karkand (which happens to be most peoples).
I am 14 years old, and hopefully sensible enough to make this useful.
So lets get on with this...
